This past weekend, I had the incredible honor of photographing a truly special event: my grandfather, Glen Beville's 100th birthday party. Held on July 20th, 2024, in Leesburg, Florida, the celebration took place at Grace Baptist Church, a venue that perfectly accommodated the grandeur of the occasion.
As guests arrived, they were greeted by an impressive Card Your Yard sign that set the tone for the day. Stepping inside, attendees were met with an over-the-top display of gold, black, and white décor that added a touch of elegance and festivity to the event.
The atmosphere was further elevated by the presence of local Central Florida Congressman, Daniel Webster, who stopped by to deliver a heartfelt speech congratulating my grandfather on reaching such an incredible milestone. Additionally, Brian Welke, who oversees my grandfather's WWII infantry, shared moving remarks about my grandfather’s service, highlighting his experience in the Battle of the Bulge, his capture by the Germans, and his time as a POW. To commemorate this part of his life, we had a display of his military gear, pictures, letters, and some parts of his uniform for all the guests to see.
Family members also took turns sharing their thoughts and memories, creating a tapestry of love and admiration for Glen. In true form, my grandfather kicked off his own speech with a joke about being an antique, a light-hearted moment that captured his enduring sense of humor.
The celebration was a lively affair with over 100 attendees. There was an abundance of food and drinks, and table games kept everyone entertained throughout the day. It was heartwarming to see so many people come together to celebrate the life of such an amazing man.
Photographing this event was not just a professional assignment but a deeply personal experience. Capturing the joy, love, and respect that filled the room was an honor I will cherish forever. Here’s to 100 years of Glen Beville, a true hero and an extraordinary grandfather.
